Mangaluru: The Pumpwell and Nantur circles in the city are strategic intersections of national highways in the city.

While an underpass is being proposed at Nantur, a flyover is to come up at Pumpwell. As thousands of commuters - students, doctors and office-goers  in particular - are using the Pumpwell-Thokkottu road either way.

The old Netravati road bridge is currently undergoing maintenance and repairs. As it is closed, the new bridge is being used for two-way vehicular movement. This has been creating regular logjams and long snarls.

Minister U T Khader, while speaking at a meeting of officials at the deputy commissioner's office on Wednesday, instructed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials to get the service roads at the Thokkottu junction ready in a week's time and also to expedite the work on flyover at the same spot.

MLA J R Lobo sought the development of the Nantur junction and further improvement and widening of the highway stretch at Bikarnakatte. DC A B Ibrahim, NHAI official Hegde and others were present at the meeting.
