Mangaluru: Two cases of thefts, suspected to have been executed by the same gang, had been reported from Kollya on the southern outskirts in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A house belonging to Saraswati, located behind Shri Mookambika temple in Kollya, was broken into from behind, Rs 2 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth 45 sovereign were taken away. Surprisingly, the theft took place while Saraswati, her nephew Jayant Ullal, wife Sunita and children were fast asleep. The sad part of the story is that the gold which had been pledged for a loan from a bank had just been redeemed on the occasion of the naming ceremony of the child. Besides, Rs 2 lakh were kept for expenses.
ACP Kalyan Shetty, Ullal SHO Savitra Teja, sub inspector Bharati and team visited the spot and held investigation.
In another incident, thieves broke into a photo studio belonging to Tanunjaya at Kollya on NH 66 and stole a camera of value Rs 40,000. Attempts were made to break into a house and another studio nearby but in vain.
