Udupi: City Municipal Council presents budget

The Udupi City Municipal Council President P Yuvaraj presented a surplus budget of Rs 121 crore for Udupi CMC for the year 2015-16, at a meeting at the Council hall on Friday, March 27.

The budget includes the Central and State governments' funds and a major portion reserved for various developmental works and providing basic facilities to the city including drinking water supply, solid waste management, underground drainage, residential complex for migrant labourers and road development.

Presenting the budget, the CMC President said that a sum of Rs 40.5 crore has been reserved to start Bio Mithenasion Unit in Alevoor and 50 lakhs will be reserved for the development of Bayalu Ranga Mandira of Beedinagudde. A sum of Rs 22.5 crore has been reserved for the development of scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, Rs 30 crore has been reserved for asphalting roads and construction of drainage.

A sum of 12.5 crore has been reserved for water supply and pipeline works. The budget proposes to develop the basic infrastructure of Alevoor waste management Unit at a cost of Rs 198.72 lakhs. The budget also proposes to converting street lights as LED lights in different phases and the construction of bus-stands.

Further, the CMC president said that as many as Rs 7 crore has been reserved for an underground drainage connection to Manipal, Malpe, and Santhekatte. Rs Three crore has been reserved for the construction of commercial complexes to improve financial resources of the CMC.

Vice president Amriha Krishnamoorthy, commissioner D Manjunathayya, standing committee president Vijay Manchi, opposition leader Dr M R Pai and others were present.
